Precautions for Processing Stainless Steel Parts in Powder Metallurgy
Stainless steel powder metallurgy, as the name suggests, refers to the production of stainless steel using powder metallurgy methods. Compared to stainless steel produced by traditional melting processes, it has the advantages of producing parts that are close to net shape, high dimensional accuracy, high material utilization rate, and uniform microstructure. So what are the precautions for processing stainless steel parts using powder metallurgy?
The processing precautions for stainless steel parts in powder metallurgy are as follows:
Rough grinding: When the grinding is light and agile, there is a slight clicking sound. With the increase of the cutting edge and the increase of the number of grinding times for fine parts processing, small flat surfaces begin to appear on the surface of the abrasive particles. At this moment, the cutting performance is poor, and a creaking sound is announced during grinding. Practice has shown that when the grinding wheel announces a relatively uniform loud sound, the sanding is sharper and the cutting performance is good. When the dynamic and static are heavy, it indicates that the grinding wheel has become dull and needs to be repaired in a timely manner. Of course, due to differences in data and cutting depth, the dynamic and static also vary.
Tool alignment and investigation: Due to the low carbon content of stainless steel materials, sparks are not easily visible during grinding, which poses great difficulties for tool alignment. The methods of applying red ink and listening to movements can be used for tool alignment.
Fine grinding: The grinding wheel dressing should be slightly finer. Shortly after the start of fine grinding, the abrasive particles will gradually wear out a small flat surface. At this time, a smaller cutting amount and a deeper longitudinal cutting amount should be selected, which can cause conflicts and kneading effects between the precision part machining surface and the small flat surface of the grinding wheel surface, greatly reducing the roughness of the workpiece surface. If one or several parts with larger margins are pre ground before a batch of parts are precision ground, the sharp abrasive particles after finishing will squeeze out a small flat surface in the pre grinding, and then enter the precision grinding stage, the effect will be better. In addition, during fine grinding, the roughness of the workpiece, such as brightness or shine, should be used to determine whether the grinding wheel has changed. Blunt, attention should be paid to this, otherwise it can easily cause surface burns on precision metal processing parts.
Stainless steel material is processed using powder metallurgy technology, which can supplement the shortcomings of traditional processing techniques, reduce alloy element segregation, improve the performance of powder metallurgy production parts, reduce cutting and machining, save raw materials, and reduce production costs.
